Indoor ebb&flow, basic questions
Post Body

Hi all :) First of all I want to say thank you to this community for providing me with valuable knowledge, insight and great help! It's been a few months now since I made my first DWC out on the balcony, and now I'm ready to do something a bit more challenging.

I want to have an indoor ebb&flow system in the kitchen, for growing herbs during the cold season. I live in northern europe.. Already now sunlight is scarce and it's getting cold outside. The growbed will be about 60x60cm so it can be placed on my kitchentop :)

Ebb&flow appeals to me because even though it has added complexity, it'll give me the chance to take the water tank to the bathroom to change out water once in a while. Now to the questions

  • How much noise does a water pump give off? The bedroom is right next to the kitchen so even a refrigerator can make too much noise. What kind of noise level to expect from a small aquarium water pump?
  • Does the ebb&flow cycle need to be continuous in an indoor setting? Can it be a cycle of like 1 fill/3hr wait or even less? I will use LED growlights so heat and evaporization is not an issue.
  • Is it possible to turn off the water pump at the correct water level (more intelligently than a timer?) automatically?

Other than that, are there any guides tips and whatever else you'd like to share with me?

Thanks!
