I've seen her for 2 weeks sporadically. About 3 days ago, I noticed she was EXTRA inquisitive about EVERYTHING on the patio. She was inspecting every corner, resting occasionally in my yucca plant with a big ol' fat belly. I noticed she was very calm with me around. Today, I crept up to the backdoor and watched out the screen from a few feet away. I think she couldn't see me(edit: I meant she could hear me but clearly wanted to inspect me), so she flew RIGHT UP to the screen door. She hovered and zig zagged for about 10 whole seconds before resting back on the yucca leaves!! I was like OH MY GOD lol I immediately bought a small feeder for her and mixed the sugar/water myself. I did boil the water first.
There is a portion of my roof that hangs over the edge. Years ago, there was a large wasp nest that we removed. The bottom half remained. Over the years, I have had a Black Phoebe nest there 3 years in a row. Finches this past spring. The crows visit and fluff/bow affectionately, as I've fed them delicious raw almonds for 2 of their clutches. And now this little girl!
I won't disturb her at all other than to observe and appreciate how lucky I am to have earned the trust of the neighborhood birbs. It has taken me like 6 years to build up this trust with them all hahaha
I love birds :)
