As the title states, I’m interested in recommendations for gothic horror, or anything that share similar sensibilities to gothic horror. I’m especially keen on any stories with ancient castles, crumbling manors, decaying bloodlines, curses, prophecies, omens, hauntings, skeletons, undead of any sort, murder, satanism, demons, possession, necromancy, cults, occultism, witches, and other such things. Some works in this vein that I’ve really enjoyed are the short stories of Edgar Allan Poe, Hashish by Oscar Schmitz, The Double Star and Other Occult Fantasies by Jane de La Vaudere, La Horla by Guy de Maupassant, The House On The Borderland by William Hope Hodgson, Sardonicus by Ray Russell, The Castle Of Otranto by Horace Walpole, and Rumbullion by Molly Tanzer. I’m already familiar with many of the classics such as Dracula and Frankenstein, and popular authors such as H P Lovecraft. I’m really looking for lesser-known works. I prefer older works to newer ones, and I I’m more interested in first-person narratives. Any help is appreciated.
