HDMI PASS THROUGH VS ARC

Hey guys

In my current set up i have everything plugged into my TV and I'm using arc to send all of the audio to my receiver. This way if i turn my xbox on the tv turns on already on the xbox input while cec turns the receiver on, and if i turn my apple tv on then it switches over to that input.

I've heard that depending on the tv not all of the audio quality passes through via arc, like dts-master. is this true?

if it is then my best bet is to run everything through the receiver first then to the tv, but then would cec change the receivers input to the input that turned on?

receiver I'm using is the Pioneer VSX LX104 and tv is Samsung Q60R
