Hello,
I have 2 home servers (with the potential for a 3rd one) running on unRaid, hosting family photos, videos, files, blu-ray movies, etc...
I decided to make the decision to buy an enterprise server and co-locate it. (1u or 2u)
The only way I can justify this purchase is if I host some important applications, which means no to minimal downtown.
What OS/software would you recommend to:
- Sync files between all 3 servers? The colocated server would only sync a subset of the files, namely the family stuff, the rest could go up in flames. Rsync seems to be the obvious choice for this, but I like Resilio Sync as I think its p2p technology could enable faster syncing.
- What OS can I run on the colocated server that would help me easily virtualize OSs remotely, that would not cost an arm and a leg? (up to 4-5 OS max)
- As a follow-up to the above, what OS would allow me to pool hard drives into a parity pool?
I am considering running unRaid in the colocated environment but little worried about its stability. I would probably need at least 2 IP's too right? 1 for connecting with unRaid and the other for hosting web applications, maybe a 3rd one for a game server, though I am not sure how well unRaid supports this feature.
