r/hearthstone's take on the Old Gods(Part 1)

Post Body

Inspired by u/DiedPiepMuis and his thread on r/soccer recently, I have decided to compile a hearthstone version to see the view on the upcoming expansion, Whispers of the Old Gods. Since it is quite a long list, I have included all the cards released in March in this post. If I get a positive response, I will put up the remaining cards that have been released so far in April, tomorrow.

The comments have been taken from The Pre-Release Card Discussion threads by /u/Nostalgia37 and from the various card discussion threads on r/hearthstone. I am not intending to offend anybody with the use of the comments, if you would like your comment removed, please message me.

Images taken from the Pre-Release Card Discussion threads, so another thanks is in order for /u/Nostalgia37 - This is an awesome dude, check out his card discussion threads here

Also a shoutout to /u/Niklink for providing this post that contains links to the various card reveal discussion threads.

March 11th: C'Thun

  • "Here's my prediction. Since the cards that buff this guy state "wherever he is", that includes your collection manager. So you just play a million casual games and get a 1,000/1,000 dude that nukes everything, then go play super freeze mage that only has this as a win condition." - /u/RainBuckets8
  • "I see Brann and Thaurissan working really well with this card. If you manage to play all of the cultist cards we've seen so far you're looking at a minimum of 12/12 for C'Thun. Add Brann and you have a potential 24 damage on battlecry. Will it be viable? No idea, but I know exactly what kind of deck I'm going to try it in." - /u/AdamNW

March 11: Twilight Elder

  • "Cutest cultist ever." - /u/Nutbread
  • "Good base stats, like Spider Tank but without mech tribe. It's sort of a shame about the animation that shows the card buffing C'Thun - without it, you could play this as a decent vanilla 3-drop even if you don't have C'Thun in your deck, and bluff about him coming so your opponent unnecessarily saves their silence or removal for him." - /u/bofstein

March 11: Beckoner of Evil

  • "I really like that these cards won't be showing up in arena, or else it would make arena as a whole very boring." - /u/Zebra_Lord
  • "Cards like this will really determine how good C'Thun decks with be. It's not terrible, but it's not amazing." - /u/Nostalgia37

March 11: Validated Doomsayer

  • "This is a continuous effect (every start of your turn if he's alive), so if you're opponent keeps playing aldor on this dude he won't follow the rules." - /u/ReportsRacism
  • "Cabal's dream." - /u/AdamNW

March 11: Corrputed Healbot

  • "I think it's not good enough; Some may experiment with this in Priest deck, but I'm afraid that's all." - /u/Avadis
  • "I actually think this will be played in Control Warrior. No Antique Healbot, no Belcher, no Loatheb, it needs a 5-drop. And I really don't think the healing will even matter, ever. I'd experiment with running 1 copy" - /u/Ivancon10a

March 11: Polluted Hoarder

  • "Fell just short of stapling two Loot Hoarders together." - /u/LaboratoryManiac
  • "I'm trying to think of any constructed archetype where this would be preferable to inventor or cult master. I'm at a loss. Not a completely terrible arena card I guess." - /u/Fexxus

March 12: Stand Against Darkness

March 13: Eater of Secrets

  • "Destroy Secret Paladin (wherever it is) ." - /u/MornarPopaj
  • "Decent Kezan Mystic replacement. Would be a lot better in the hay day of Secret Paladin but it seems like Secret Paladin will phase out unless a new variant comes out." - /u/the_vadernader

March 13: Giant Sand Worm

  • "A very good buff for Ram Wrangler." - /u/Tengu-San
  • "Inb4 trolden video about this bestial wrath flesheating ghoul against a dreadsteed. Serious though I really think this is a cool card, however I don't think this is good enough, as I think this card won't live more than 1 turn on avarage." - /u/iAMmincho

March 13: Hogger, Doom of Elwynn

  • "This may be a good anti C'Thun card." - /u/Termich
  • "It's... okay. Without a way of consistently activating it (Death's Bite) in Standard, I doubt it'll see much play. And in Wild it'll be competing with Boom, so good luck with that." - /u/Azureraider

March 15: Klaxxi Amber-Weaver

March 16: Ancient Shieldbearer

  • "7 mana 6/6 with Battlecry: If your C'thun has at least 10 attack, gain 10 armor. We're fucked." - /u/TosyV1
  • "c'ontroll warrior incoming" - /u/Siggi97

March 16: C'Thun's Chosen

  • "This definitely seems playable in a c'thun deck. It seems like the deck is practically building itself, with solid yet unexciting minions to play on curve to build up to a devastating finish." - /u/RedditIsPeople
  • "This might be the best card in the set so far? Apparently blizzard doesn't want the 5/4 statline to work at all... But for real, it will likely trade 2 for 1 and it will buff C'thun. That is insane." - /u/Nostalgia37

March 17: Forbidden Flame

  • "so play archmage, cast this for 0 damamge get a fireball?" - /u/twistingfate1403
  • "Honestly, this is probably going to be an auto-include for a LOT of Mage decks. It is weak in that you don't get the damage efficiency of other cards (1 minion damage for 1 mana, instead of 6 for 4 from Fireball, 3 freeze for 2 from Frost Bolt, 8 minion for 5 from Flame Lance), but it gains a lot in flexibility." - /u/Wraithfighter

March 17: Forbidden Shaping

  • "Finally a Priest 2 drop." - /u/abonet619
  • "Loving the priest card. Can fill out the gaps in an early curve, or be full on problems for the opponent in the end game." - /u/voxaroth

March 17: Forbidden Healing

  • "Healadin lives again!" - /u/Aldo13
  • "Can't wait for the Trolden video featuring a priest thoughstealing this, having an Auchenai stay on the board for a turn, and then hitting his opponent for 20 damage." - /u/someoneinthebetween

March 20: Herald Volazj

  • "Now you too can have your very own [baby] Ragnaros!" - /u/DQ_Joe
  • "I hope they'll have pinched voices." - /u/Jemiide

March 20: Infested Tauren

  • "Homeless Sludge Belcher. The stats are so underwhelming compared to his Naxx brother." - /u/yopes
  • "I think the best comparison to make is with harvest golem. Harvest golem is already an underwhelming card atm, so for 1 more mana we get taunt and 1health on the deathrattle minion.... meh" - /u/lololert

March 21: Doom

  • "The overdraw potential is insane" - /u/botibalint
  • "Not sure what to think; do warlocks need to draw that many cards?" - /u/czhihong

March 22: Tentacle of N'Zoth

  • "See? Tentacles may explode." - /u/-Lime-
  • "It's a tiny Explosive Sheep. Good against aggro without being a Zombie chow reprint. I can dig it." - /u/ATROX_Beats

March 22: Hallazeal the Ascended

  • "Cast spells on your own face for max BM!" - /u/SherlockDoto
  • "This guy plus Elemental Destruction will probably heal you completely. That's pretty hilarious." - /u/MagnaX7

March 23: Nzoth's First Mate

  • "I got a Wisp and an almost Light's Justice for one mana, AND Pirate synergy and weapon synergy? Well I'm sold" - /u/OctoroiGuldan
  • "Razer published it, so the weapon, despite having 3 durability, breaks after 1 attack" - /u/TeenKnager

March 23: Faceless Shambler

  • "Soulless Manipulator." - /u/Elloss1
  • "This could be nice in Handlock to play on Moltens or Twilight Drakes. Making a giant wall that doesn't need to be Sunfuried/Argused is pretty neat." - /u/Funny_Monsters_40

March 24: Undercity Huckster

  • "This will be good in Raptor Rogue. I have a feeling that archetype will get some love in Standard." - /u/djaeke
  • "I love Undercity Huckster, it's like a mini Burgle (and a better burgle as well). :)" - /u/GreenFluffySocks

March 24: N'Zoth, the Corrupter

March 24: Renounce Darkness

  • "This card will keep Trolden employed for the year." - /u/CarparkC
  • "For when you've got the "Win 3 games as a warlock" daily and really don't want to play warlock." - /u/scientifiction

March 24: Spawn of N'Zoth

March 25: The Boogeymonster

  • "I found the only Legendary I'm going to open." - /u/jynh
  • "Forrbiden shaping just got a little worse on 8 mana" - /u/solarbeholder

March 25: Xaril, Poisoned Mind

  • "Corrupted spare parts!" - /u/Bince82
  • "Whew, that Paragons of the Klaxxi PTSD came right back to me" - /u/D0Z

March 25: Tentacles for Arms

  • "It was hard to compete with posion blade. But they did it. GJ Blizz." - /u/Raslik
  • "100 tentacles, 100 dust" - /u/botibalint

March 27: Infest

  • " like the idea that the only card hunters deserve is endless variations on webspinner." - /u/thutch
  • "Unleash the Webspinners - 6 mana" - /u/gandlethorpe

March 27: Ragnaros, Lightlord

  • "Luckily this wasn't revealed on April 1st, otherwise I wouldn't have believed it." - /u/FinalStanthony
  • "Next adventure: Whiterock Mountain, featuring Healerdomo Executus." - /u/mechaxis

March 28: Cult Apothecary

  • "The sick Leeroy synergy though" - /u/NotMeButET
  • "The issue is that if your opponent has several minions in play, clearing their board is the priority, not healing damage." - /u/LouBrown

March 28: Mukla, Tyrant of the Vale

March 29: Shadow Word: Horror

  • "Finally, the Stand Against Darkness counter we've been waiting for." -/u/tegeusCromis
  • "Just in time for my shrinkmeister to leave standard." - /u/oxidiser

March 29: Mark of Y'Shaarj

March 29: Scaled Nightmare

March 30: Steward of Darkshire

  • "Magma Rager finally viable!" - /u/HiMyNameIsSander
  • "I don't know if a very competitive deck will spawn from this card, but one thing's for sure: If one does, it will be annoying as shit" - /u/ThoughtOverFear

March 30: Skeram Cultist

  • "It seems more and more that C'Thun decks are designed to be a version of Vanilla stat minions to help new players learn how to play a more late game oriented deck." - /u/CNHphoto
  • "Card so plain i couldn't come up with a dank meme for karma :(" -/u/fatlips7

March 31: Cabalist's Tome

  • "Opponent plays Millhouse Manastorm. Cabalist's Tome -> 3 Cabalist's Tome -> 9 Cabalist's Tome.It's like wishing for a thousand wishes." -/u/DisguisedToastHS
  • "Ball of spells" - /u/lqtruong

March 31: Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound

  • "New control warrior running C'thun N'Zoth Y'Shaarj, Deathwing and Varian Wrynn confirmed" - /u/Redhairyboy
  • "Mysterious C'thallenger incoming" - /u/youngbingbobg

March 31: Ancient Harbinger

  • "Ancient Harbinger might end up being the crux of Old God based decks. I really like it, even if it's not super strong." - /u/mylifemyworld17
  • "Finally, my Zoo deck has a reliable way to draw Sea Giant." - /u/DiabloGraves

Phew, part 1 is now finished, will post up Part 2 tomorrow if I get a positive response to this one :)
