I feel unworthy of love. If love is earned how do I become worthy of it?

Before breaking up with me, my ex told me that love is earned not given and that I had to earn his love. We were together for 4 years and he dumped me for a poly relationship and is happier with his new partners while I'm single and alone. I gave this man everything, including my whole heart.
I wish I could move on but I haven't been able to find anybody else that can love and nourish me. And I'm sick and tired of hearing that you need to love your self before you can love others.
