Hi, I’m searching for a pair of saws (rip and cross cut) for making mostly boxes (shoe sized) with sunrise dovetails at best but also box joints and classic dovetails. I wanted a dozuki but it’s really hard to find a resharpenable one in France (where I am) Apart from the Japanese dozuki and the western dovetail saw maybe their is another kind of saw that I can look into ? (I would have buy a North American one like lie Nielsen or Veritas but I’m really more confortable with the pull stroke) Thanks Edit : I think I’ll go with the push stroke, I seem to have overlooked the fact that pull saws are extremely hard to sharpen compare to western ones. I found a cheap Pax saw on eBay (with a tooth to fix) Thanks for the help
After years of fiddling and fortunes spent in a lot of things: here's what in my toolbox: - a long (94 cm) rip cut Peugeot - a short (36 cm) rip cut Peugeot A professional Stanley backsaw with a crosscut pattern, but I'm not giving it much use now that I've made bow saws with rip pattern blades. An old beat up Dick brand dozuki I use with no backing to saw stuff that must be flush (I've altered the set on it for that)
Yes, I've ended up noticing that when I had a rip handy there were not enough difference in terms of work than using a crosscut, not enough to own one actually. It's a bit tougher, but I'm paring everything so I don't care, and sharpening and setting is 20 minutes on my 94 whilst a 55 rip at the same tpi took me 40... Si tu es vers Paris passes chez Gaignard Millon, c'est vraiment la ref en termes de choix et ils sont plutôt de bon conseil!
