nut broke superstitions?

last night while I was cooking dinner for my lonely bachelor self I heard a string get plucked way hard on my guitar in the other room. I kinda freaked out because I thought I mighta been gettin' f'd with so I went in the other room to investigate. much to my dismay nobody was there, but my high E string (which was perfectly in tune) snapped off the edge of my nut on my old acoustic (and took part of the nut with it.) it was still in tune.

is my house haunted? are there any superstitions for this? at this point I'm gonna buy a new nut and try to repair it over the holiday.
