I was 15 when Jerry died, and can remember riding in the car with my family through a piercing blue-eyed sky of a day in Vermont, as my dad turned up the radio to hear the news in a crackly NPR broadcast.
I’ve always loved the Dead, and have really returned to them now in what has been a desperately challenging point in my life. Their music is a salve, and the lyrics have never strayed from darkness even as the melodies tore through it.
Terrapin I’ve always found to be the most transporting—- interpretable and hypnotic and ancient as the invocation of the muse Jerry gives in the opening.
Is there a show that weaves in all the songs tied to Terrapin—- Jack A Roe, Lost Sailor, Dark Star etc that seem to be lyrically a part of this dark masterpiece?
Thank you
