Well, good morning, big brother.
Good morning is a relative term, I guess. It’s night actually. I’ve been up doing human things during daylight hours, while my big brother the vampire sleeps snug in his bed.
Referring to you as my big brother is also kind of a relative term. Yes, literally in the sense that you’re my brother. But you were turned on your eighteenth birthday, and stopped aging. And… well, I just turned eighteen as well. Today actually.
[laugh] No, it’s okay. I know that your sense of time is messed up now. Even for a human your overnight schedule would cause confusion. But now that you’re immortal… well, the last several years since you were turned must have just flown by for you. I haven’t helped much there. When you stopped aging, I lost my desire to as well. I still wanted to be a little sister to you. So I continued to dress and act younger than I was, even as my body kept growing despite my wishes to the contrary.
And, while we’re on that subject… since you didn’t get me a gift, I have an idea for what you can give me.
[sigh] I know you said you couldn’t turn me. That maybe when I was older it could happen then if you found the right vampire to do it,
You started saying that years ago. I never really challenged why you couldn’t be the one to turn me. Well, other than when I’d sometimes joke about it. But you’d always get upset when I did.
It’s not so much that you can’t though, is it? It’s that you don’t want to do what’s involved in turning me.
Because I just found out how vampires like you are really made...
The title for this script comes from the Gerard McMann song from the movie "The Lost Boys", both of which I absolutely love. The take on vampires is a mixture of a lot of different movies and mythologies though, largely designed to serve the purposes of the story here.
Hopefully the title doesn't convey any false impressions. The little sister definitely doesn't cry. I almost went with "Thou Shalt Not Fall", although that's also pretty vague. Or I could have picked something more descriptive like "Woman Needs Her Vampire Big Brother to Turn Her Before She Gets Older Than Him". But I'm really kind of in love with "Cry Little Sister" as the title, very possibly because of the song and my mental associations with that. Plus the allusions within it to a brother and sister seemed apt, I guess.
