Me and my fiancée recently did a "10-day detox" where we removed grains, sugars, dairy and alcohol for 10 days. I was diagnosed with IBS years ago and we were trying to identify if I have any "trigger foods". I usually had at least 1 IBS attack every day. While on this detox I had no stomach issues at all.
We then started to slowly integrate these things back into our diet to see how I reacted. I was fine...up until that first piece of bread...oh man....within minutes I immediately felt pressure and in my stomach and had this really weird anxious feeling. Within the hour I'm in the bathroom with really bad diarrhea.
I've had a few bites of bread since then, same reaction. If I don't eat any wheat, my stomach issues are non-existent. After doing some research it sounds like textbook Celiac's and that the detox reset my gluten tolerance back to my normal "intolerant" levels.
Just wanted to check with some other people in the same boat to make sure these symptoms are common for people with wheat allergies/intolerances or if I should check with a doctor to get a actual diagnosis.
I hate doctors, and I know he's just going to ship me off to a gastro-specialist anyway so unless these symptoms are really abnormal I doubt I'll worry too much about an "official" diagnosis, save my hundred bucks in co-pays and just stick to gluten-free.
What do you guys think?
