Is the michagan basin responsible for the niagra escaprment

I live in the region of the Bruce trail and was doing some reading about hiking it. My dad always told me that out city was so hilly because of the Michigan bowl and wile reading into the escarpment I realized it's end near manitolan island seems to match the cutoff point point for the Michigan basin. My question is are the two at all related, possibly the same just going by different names? I'll attach the photos that lead me to this question
