Dear Spring and Summer 2020 graduates,
I hope this note finds you and your loved ones safe and well. I am writing to update you on our current plans for hosting an in-person Commencement ceremony in recognition of your new status as Georgia Tech alumni.
We know students are eager to celebrate their graduation, and we are eager to celebrate right along with you. We have weighed multiple options that would allow us to honor each student while providing a safe environment for everyone attending the event. Keeping that in mind, we will offer an additional ceremony during both our Fall 2020 and our Spring 2021 Commencement weekends to celebrate this year’s spring and summer graduates.
In addition, we believe Bobby Dodd Stadium will be the best venue for the event based on guidance from the Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force, the Georgia Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that encourages outdoor spaces for larger events like Commencement. It will allow for appropriate physical distancing — and one of the best views of the city from campus.
Spring and summer graduates will have the opportunity to choose which ceremony they’d prefer to participate in. Students may register an email address with the Office of Special Events and Protocol to receive information about ceremony dates. Students will be required to RSVP to attend the event.
Dates, times, and ticket allotments for the Fall 2020 ceremony will be published the week of Sept. 7. All information will be posted at commencement.gatech.edu and emailed to students who register an email address.
Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and patience as we continue to navigate these difficult circumstances. We look forward to seeing you back on campus soon!
Yours, Ángel Cabrera President, Georgia Institute of Technology
