I like single player, immersive games where you get to explore a rich world, with deep dungeons and dark castles with great level design; and where you learn the hidden secrets of reality... and I have a hard time finding any!
On the face of it sounds like a generic description of a (fantasy) video game, of which there should be many; but past bethesda games and Elden Ring, I've been having a hard time finding one. Most are either Ubisoft style checkbox-ticking-generic-content-collection-not-exploration-more-like-connect-the-checkpoint games, Grimrock clones where you have to waddle about a grid using the worst fps controls ever designed while trying to click on an attack button hoping that it's cycled back to useableness, or single player mmos having an identity crisis.
I have spent many hours trawling the net, sifting through lists and reddit posts and always just end finding people suggesting Witcher 3, which, while fun, has zero actual dungeons, and therefore no level design to speak of; just set-piece locations scattered round a relatively fixed-state open world with very little randomness.
I suppose I just want that Skyrim fix of "Wait what's that? Oh a cave; what's in there? Wow, a vampire's lair with... oh a dwemer door; wait why am I in a cave with glowing mushrooms. Oh look an elevator. Hey why am on the other side of the world, what about that quest I was doing? Oh look a castle......"; but can never seem to find it.
So basically does anyone know of a decent game that meets my criteria?
First person preferably, dungeons to explore, engaging gameplay yada yada... (Obviously been holding out hope for Avowed, but the more I learn the less confident I am)
Please help me Reddit, you're my only hope....
