So, I've been looking into how multiplayer games work with a view to making one in the future, but I've been unable to find answers, at least clear ones, to certain questions so I figured I ask them here.
1) It takes an IP address and a port to host a server, but how do you automatically obtain the host user's ip to host it or is this just totally off track? Same question with the port really, needs to be open so is there a way to find an open port? I'd rather avoid port forwarding if at all possible and preferably not need the player to do a ton of work to host a server, simply click host and go from there.
2) What are the main security concerns for the user that I'd need to consider, and how can they be implemented in gamemaker 2?
I've probably got more questions that I'll post in the future on this topic but I'll leave it here for now. I realize some of these might be a little on the obvious side to those in the know but I've got very little idea on this subject and am just looking to learn, so any further information you can provide is also welcome. Thanks to anyone who reply's :)
