I had a dream last night about a board game with time travel.
The gist is this: Players must write down their plans for future turns. Then (if and when) a player can travel to a future turn and either look at the board state or maybe complete an action. Then the travelled player returns to the present (turn they originally traveled from) with the knowledge gained. Players would be allowed to make changes in their written plans but any actions completed by a time traveling player are written in stone. Plans could be based on things that they discovered as they are completed turn by turn.
Picture a ‘capture the flag’ game an example plan could be: move until I find the other teams flag, if I find the flag, return it to my base, by the quickest route possible. Then as each turn happens, each player’s turn would follow the said action. So when the time traveling player returns to the turn they travelled from what they witnessed or actions completed by them would be set in stone. They could change their plans, but what they witnessed or did in that future turn would be set in stone. Because when that player (or piece) appeared in the future (from the past). As long as the board state is what the traveler saw, players could change their plans elsewhen
My question(s): 1. Does that sound fun? 2. Is there a better way to do it? 3. I’ve played Anachrony (worker placement where you get resources sent back in time from the future), if resources aren’t sent back you lose points. 4. I think I’d need to computer-ize this mechanic to keep all players honest.
