Don't make the same top surgery mistake I made!!
Post Body

Hey guys, I'm one day post op and let me start off by saying I feel amazing. In very little pain and discomfort, I'm super excited for the reveal. I had surgery wit Dr Raphael in Plano TX and no words can describe how amazing they all were. Raphael kept things brief but I didn't feel like he was rushing me, super friendly, professional but such a 'bro' he put me at a lot of ease. All of the office staff and especially the nurses were AMAZING. They not only were so kind but they also made the experience really fun.. I never thought I could say that about surgery.

So nothing major went wrong, but before surgery I needed to do a urine sample because legally they need to make sure I'm not pregnant before administering medication in my iv that would terminate any fetus. Despite never having had sex with a male ever its just a legal requirement. Now I usually am pretty bad for drinking water and I rarely have to pee, sometimes only twice a day and I feel fine. I also stopped eating and drinking at 8:30 pm the night before and had my surgery at 7am so I felt like my bladder was quite empty. I had this problem before too at the endo.. Where I tried to pee for 15 mins or so and just nothing was coming. The nurse was great and gave me an IV to put some water into my system but still nothing. By my third attempt I was feeling quite under pressure now because I felt like I was delaying my surgery, the staff and maybe even the surgery of others. The nurse asked me one last time if I thought I'd be able to go, otherwise she'd have to give me a catheter.

In the end I had to get one, and by this stage my bladder had a LOT of liquid in it from the IV which embarrassed me even more because I guess I was just so pee shy. The nurse tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible and she was amazing, the two of us were cracking jokes through the whole thing (she was stabbing around for a while looking for my uretra and I asked her "you sure I got one? we could install one while we're here?") but it was still super painful and incredibly dysphoric, especially since I wasn't expecting it to happen.

So if anybody ever has trouble peeing when told to make sure you ask your nurses at your pre-op if they need a urine sample and maybe you could take a bottle home with you the night before and bring it back, or at the very least prepare yourself by drinking a lot of water the night before and not going to the toilet before bed or when you wake up in the morning!

Hope this helps someone.
