Focusing on a goal far away (for most people here) is the oposite of mindfulness. Minfulness, living in the moment, has been scientifically proved to reduce stress. With FI we focus on a goal (a number) far away which me might or might not reach. This leads (for me) to a fair amount of stress about my work situation and future.
Worring that I do not save enough, making decisions based on what I will do 20 year into the future instead of what makes sense foir the next year.
The best way to reach FI would for me to not think about FIRE. Have 50% or so of my earnings go automatically into VSTAX and that is about it. Stop reading blogs, spending an awful amount of time here on this sub. Just go full autopilot.
Focus on good habits and values in life that in general involves cutting consumption (for enviromental reasons) and saving. The FIRE part will hopefully work itself out, but it is more of a nice surprise than a set goal.
We all know the rules of FI, which are quite simple. We have the knowledge, we have the tools. Now my goal is to get off blogs and reddit, stop daydreaming and focus on living in the moment.
