Fasting beginner... please help

I’ve decided to lose some weight, and cut around 10-20 pounds in 2 months (preferably less). I want to start doing a fast where I only drink water, but I am not accustomed to not eating for long periods of time.

What would be the idea way to approach this form of fast? For example, I have decided that today I will eat very little, as a way to “prepare” for tomorrow, and go into a 24 hour water fast starting tomorrow morning.
