Post Body

So I’m a recent U.S. military retiree. I am starting out on a new career in IT. So no entry level jobs I’ve seen will pay over 11k/month RM. I have 3 kids (7/9/13) that live with my ex wife in Japan. I support them. 11k is not enough to live there and support them.

I can not move to Japan as any U.S. govt job is too senior or tech jobs are also senior in the IT field (on base or in the state department). My Japanese language is deplorable but still studying, so I don’t qualify for host nation jobs. Teaching in Asia or anywhere in the Pacific pays scraps. That and I don’t have my bachelors degree yet. Needed for all teaching jobs.

Malaysia is a good foot in the door to be nearer to my kids. Cheaper flights to Japan, more paid holidays, and holidays in general…

I’m getting to the point where I’ll work at any company as long as they pay 20k RM/month. I know they have a new digital nomad visa for fully remote workers from their home country. However, almost no companies will support remote work for that kind of distance for entry-level jobs.

Am I delusional or should I wait for a few years to gain experience, then try for Malaysia?
