My wife divorced me because she couldn’t deal with my disability. I know it’s common for disabled people to divorce for legal or financial reasons but we didn’t need to. Everything on that front was fine. I was fine while dating and the first few years of marriage, but went downhill. Eventually she had enough and left. There was no abuse or cheating or money problems, just my disability. But she has to carry that stigma forever, forever known as the woman who left her disabled husband. And that doesn’t fill me with joy or anything, but it does make going through this a little easier.
