The wagon wheels rattled and shook along the ancient road. The further you got from the capital it seemed, the worse off the old King's Roads became. Still, there was money to be made in leaving the city and Maxwell intended to make it. A bit of coin and adventure, plus the joyous smiles of his patrons was all that he could hope for. After all, what good was a bard without an audience?

Those lofty thoughts were rudely interrupted when a particularly large pothole caused Max to bounce up into the air, and land with an ungracious smack to his rear side when he landed on the hard wooden driver's seat. "Seven hells!" He swore, pulling back on the reins. "Romulus, Remus! Can you not try to avoid the large holes in the middle of the thoroughfare?" He shouted. For their part, the two old horses looked from Max to each other without stopping. This had become a usual complaint since leaving the relatively paved cobblestone streets of the kingdom.

A voice called out from inside the large canvas covered wagon. "Oi, Maxxy! Are you trying to kill us?" The voice was sweet and feminine, even if the words sounded like that of a street urchin. 

"No Ysolde, I'm not. But I thought as an acrobat you'd be good at tumbling about back there." He said with a wry smile. "That's why you picked my wagon to ride in after Port Milly, right?" Max looked back behind him where another four wagons, all painted brightly and decorated with wildflowers or pelts followed behind him. Life on the road was certainly hard, but it was always easier in the company of friends. Dirk Macgregor's Fantasma Circus was not just a band of merry outcasts, they were a family.

"You know very well this was not the sort of tumblings I had in mind you snake." Came her response with more playfulness than anger as the acrobat's head poked out from a window to the bard's right. "Besides, couldn't you have at least untied me before hitting the road?"

"And let you get away my dear?" He teased giving the woman a charming smile and a wink. "Never! Suits you right sleeping with strange men. Hopefully, you've learned your lesson. Besides..." He added, guiding the horses off the road and into a grassy clearing, "we're here."

"Where's here?" She asked, looking out at a tall wooden palisade built across the clearing. The wall was new. Tree trunks still green and wet with sap had been erected around the sleepy little village since the last time the circus had been through.

"Fromme." Max replied, standing up on the wagon and stretching out his tires back. He hopped down to the grass with a tumble, rising to his feet like a spring in a practiced motion. In once smooth motion, he popped up and kissed the woman on the lips. "There, better now? Let's get you untied so you can set up camp. What do you say?"

I will play Maxwell the slightly seasoned travelling minstrel who is kind-of your stereotypical bard if you're familiar with the trope. Who you will be is up to you.
