My husband and I are so in love...we've built an amazing life together and I couldn't be happier with him. He's sweet and sensitive and so kind. I've never liked his dad. He's the opposite of my husband in almost every way. While my husband is sensitive and considerate, my father in law is loud and coarse and impolite. He makes jokes at everyone's expense, he thinks it's funny to humiliate people, and he makes comments that are very problematic about women. I tolerate him for my husband's sake.

Recently, my father in law had to move in with us while his new house is under construction. Having him around so often is driving me crazy. I work from home, my father in law is "semi retired", but my husband commutes so l'm often home alone with his dad. I’ve noticed that he’s learned my schedule so he’s often in the common areas of the house when I’m making myself a coffee or lunch. It seems like he wants me to see him in his sweaty workout clothes or half naked in his robe and old shorts. He calls me “darlin’” or “sweetheart” and says “good girl” when I do him a favor. His son would never speak to me like that and I would lose it if he tried, but hearing “good girl” in his dad’s booming rough voice is something I’ve come to crave.

The other day, I came into the kitchen and he was watching porn on his iPad with the volume all the way up. I could hear a woman moaning “yes daddy” as I came around the corner. He closed his iPad but not before he knew I could hear. I know if I talked to my husband about that, he would talk to his dad and ask him to be more discreet, but something keeps me from bringing it up.

Things seem tense between us. The only other man I’ve ever wanted (or had) is my husband, so my feelings toward this older, pushy, rude man are confusing to me.
