Hammerdin survivability in Hell

Hey all,

I currently on my first character (new to Diablo 2), 79 paladin. In Hell, my damage is fine and am able to one/two shot mobs with my hammers but I get wrecked taking damage. Can anyone provide tips or pieces of gear that are going to benefit me in surviving hell in order to be able to farm it efficiently? My Dex is pretty low (working on that now) so my block is only about 30% which I know is garbage. Is it worth a respec and lower vitality to get more dex for block? Any tips would be appreciated.
