RETITLED: After further review I am retitling this post to "Void Son does far too much with minimal effort by the player." It may not me more powerful than other aspects, but with how little effort that is required it provides incredible benefits to those who use it.
Like did anyone play test child of the old gods before releasing it? It would be good enough if it weakened enemies in the aoe. It would be good enough if it just damaged enemies in the radius over time.
It does both of those things.
How do you activate it? Do you lob it and hope it hits the target? No that would be much too hard. Instead it tracks enemies through, around, under, and over walls. With some of the best tracking I've seen in this game.
And to top it all off, you activate it with a rift. "But you activate arc souls with a rift!" Yes, yes you do. But do you know what arc souls don't do without an exotic? They don't regenerate melee and grenade energy on hits or when attacking the enemy. On top of a tracking, weakening, damage bomb, it generates your other abilities like axion bolt, one of the few one hit kill grenades in the game, and pocket singularity. Which to be fair isn't too bad. And, in addition to ALL of the above, if you kill someone in the radius you get back rift energy. Which then gives back another child of the old gods.
And this is all minus the rest of the broken toolkit that voidwalker has.
If you can offer a counterpoint to a SINGLE ability that is not aided by build crafting or weapons, I will publicly concede my point to you.
