It's not a DBD problem. It's a players expectations in a competetive game problem.

Hi guys and gals.

You read about expectations on the game every other thread.

"Why is no one having fun"
"Why is everyone sweating"
"Why is nobody trying anymore"
"Why doesn't killer spare me, if i hop into a snowman"

I have made my mind about these questions and my personal conclusion is: It's not a DBD problem. It's a players expectation problem. Let me explain.

In the very second a game has a competetive component - be it tournaments or ranked modes, there will be people trying to get good, get better or even optimize their gameplay to a maximum. And since there is no "casual mode" for DBD, all players, casual, fun, sweaters, competetive guys will matchup alike.

You have this kind of "problem" in every game that offers an competetive gameplay. I have played Rainbow Six Siege for 2000 hours - same people, same questions, same problemes. I have played Smite for ~1000 hours - same people, same questions, same problems.

The very special thing with DBD is, that on the surface, it's just this fun little 1v4 game, where there is so much to explore right? Dozens of killers and survivors, hundreds of perks, isn't it fun to explore of all that? And then the moment kicks in, where you "understand" what the game wants from you. You might start watching videos and getting used to meta. And that's where you stand now. In every other competetive game, that's as usual as it goes. I just think, that DBD is so exclusively niche, that even "casual players" want to have with it for hundreds or thousands of hours.

And then of course there is the "Call of Duty bias" as i like to call it, where i take a look on my brother. He always says "MMR is bad, bla bla, i dont want to match against players that are as good as me, thats no fun, i have to sweat, that spoils the game for me". Maybe a few DBD players also fall into the CoD bias, where "i just want to have fun and troll around" basically means, "i want to win every round and not play against people, that might as strong as me or even better.

And i dont think, that the core problem is solvable, since it's a core problem of competetive games everywhere. Doesn't even belong to video games. I'm also in a local tabletop hobby group. There's is always discussions as of "do we play hardcore competetive today or just two buddies having fun?" Can't just get rid of it.

Just my two cents on what i have been reading the last few weeks since i followed this sub. I also don't want to shame anybody. Everybody should have fun as he pleases. But he should also consider, that his teammates may have other agendas on their mind.
