The New Dating Advice: A Place to Learn, Share, and Discuss Everything Dating
Post Body

Hey everyone,

My nameā€™s Nick. Welcome to the new and updated /r/dating_advice! Please take a moment to look at the sidebar and read the ā€œCommunity Guidelinesā€.

I started this subreddit years ago and at the time did not have the resources to handle it by myself. I let other amazing members moderate the community and it grew into a positive, helpful place.

This now gives me the opportunity to create the ultimate dating community Reddit has been waiting for -- both men AND women. But, I need your help to do it.

What is this subreddit about?

Share your favorite tips, ask for advice, and encourage others about anything dating:

  • Meeting people & starting conversations
  • Flirting & expressing your intentions
  • Creating meaningful connections
  • Building confidence & self-esteem
  • Overcoming "nice guy" syndrome
  • Conquering sexual shame & anxiety
  • Developing attractive body language

And anything else related to becoming a more social, confident, and attractive person -- especially in regards to dating.

What has changed from the old dating_advice?

This subreddit used to only have self-post questions about specific situations. I believe there are even more thought-provoking discussions and learning to be had.

Hereā€™s what Iā€™d like to see from the community:

  • Self posts: questions and answers on specific situations -- the same as before. Age and genders will still be required for these posts.
  • Self posts: general discussion, stories, and advice on how to succeed in dating. Some ideas for topics can be seen from the ā€œtopics includeā€ examples above.
  • Link posts: articles, videos, and other quality content on those same dating topics. Memes and spammy articles are not allowed.

What are the goals of this subreddit?

Iā€™ve been a dating coach and author for over six years. I run a popular blog and frequently contribute to dating and self-improvement subreddits.

My goal is to create a community that:

  • Provides advice to both genders looking for various types of relationships. That includes casual dating, a partner for the long-term, or quick hookups. There is no right or wrong here, itā€™s dependent on what each person is looking for. As long as you are honest, upfront, and respectful -- I believe there are healthy connections of every kind.
  • Teaches you to be a more confident, attractive person without the use of lingo, lines, routines, or gimmicks. There are core concepts and examples that are critical to learn from but the specifics are for you to create. You should learn to build meaningful connections with your personality and not someone elseā€™s.
  • The rest of Reddit is proud (not embarrassed) to come for advice and share with others. I want this to be seen as a positive, sexist free community that helps everyone become a better person.

This is a open-minded and supportive environment. It does not tolerate those who shame others for flirting, being sexually forward, or desiring sex. Wanting to learn how to better yourself and get better at dating is not creepy or weird -- donā€™t let anyone tell you otherwise.

I want to bring my expertise to show that:

  • You can learn to naturally improve your dating life without being manipulative, fake, or robotic. And you can do it while still caring about people and creating meaningful connections.
  • You can be upfront with your intentions, flirtatious, and express your sexuality in a respectful manner. In fact, avoiding these things will prevent you from making romantic connections. They are a necessary part of the courting process!

I plan to answer questions as often as possible, submit great content, and ensure consistent quality throughout the subreddit.

If youā€™d like to get a better idea on my values, please check out my core philosophies page. You can also read my blog at The Dating Specialist.

How can you help?

Everyone knows that a community is only as good as its members. You are what will make this into something incredible.

Please reply to this thread with ideas, comments, and suggestions! If youā€™d prefer, you can privately message me any time as well.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read. Donā€™t forget to subscribe and please share this community with anyone you think might find it useful!
