So at the beginning of January my 6 year old son said his groin area was hurting him. I looked and it turned out he had a testicular appendage torsion. Which means that an appendage off his testicle was twisted. ER said surgery. Gave him an ultrasound and they couldn't find his one testicle. And said the other was fine. Went to a specialist and he was very off putting of the whole situation. Even said he didn't need surgery. We got very irritated with this and went to a children's hospital 2 hours away. Come to find out, neither testicle fully descended. One isn't anywhere close to being descended. The children's hospital specialist said this is pediatrician 101. This should have been caught when he was 6 months old. We now have to put my 6 year old through surgery to repair and he will need tested in a couple years because there is about a 50/50 shot he will never be able to have kids...
I'm beyond furious with our pediatrician. Of course we have dropped them and are looking into another practice about an hour away as the children's specialist has recommended it to us. So much for trusting little town American folk. We are being told we are over reacting and these things happen. Bull@@it. I can see missing this on 1 appointment. But every appointment for 6 straight years!!!!
Sorry, long rant. If you take anything away from this is please be proactive. No one wants to be feeling for that kind of stuff. If you don't want to check that's OK, make sure you tell your pediatrician to make sure they are there at his next appointment.
Love to all the dads out there, hang in there you're doing a great job...
