Cultural historian, curator, journalist, and MacArthur Fellow Josh Kun will be presenting The Art of the Crossfade: Music, Archives, and California on 1/24 from 6:30 to 8 PM in Hale 270. Josh Kun uses the DJ method of crossfading to explore and animate historic sheet music, vinyl LPs and restaurant menus as tools in addressing contemporary issues of gentrification, urban redevelopment, and racial inequality, among others.
For International Holocaust Remembrance Day visiting scholar David E. Fishman will present The Book Smugglers of the Vilna Ghetto: A Chapter in Spiritual Resistance to the Nazis on 1/24 at 7 PM in the Old Main Theater. In the lecture Fishman will discuss the story of ghetto inmates who rescued thousands of rare books and manuscripts—first from the Nazis and then from the Soviets—by hiding them on their bodies, burying them in bunkers, and smuggling them across borders.
Philadelphia 76er's play-by-play announcer Marc Zumoff will be visiting campus on 1/25 from 12 - 1:30 PM in UMC 233 to share his experiences from over four decades in radio and television broadcasting. He will discuss what it takes to find success in sports media and how his job has evolved as a result of new technologies like social media and streaming.
Attend the next free CU on the Weekend lecture on 1/26 from 1-3 PM in the Butcher Auditorium in the biotech building as award-winning journalist and CU Boulder instructor Michael Kodas shares insights about the causes and consequences of megafires and how communities remain resilient and recover from the impacts of this destructive force. Kodas' investigation has taken him from a season on a Rockies fire crew, to tragedies in Australia, Arizona and beyond, to record-breaking fire seasons back home in Colorado.
