I have several questions, but first a little background. I'm in my junior year of my CS degree with a gpa that fluctuates between 3.7-3.9. I feel pretty confident with Java, HTML, CSS, and I'm familiar with C. I have no problem learning on the job, in fact it's what I prefer. My goal is to become a full stack developer while eventually moving into management. I currently work as an executive admin and it's soul crushing. While it has allowed me to do school work in my downtime I need to find something else before I lose my mind. Now to my questions:
1) Would it be practical to start looking for a cs job now? I would love to get my career going but I also understand it might be best to wait.
2) How important is a portfolio?
3) What would be expected in a portfolio if I were to start looking now? This may be too broad of a question but any insight would be appreciated.
4) Again this might be too broad, but if applying to CS jobs is an option what types of job titles should I be looking for?
5) Any idea what a good baseline salary might be? I have zero experience in this field and don't want to get taken advantage of. I live in a western state that isn't on the coast but does have a somewhat prominent software industry. I would say cost of living is moderate.
I fully understand this is a lot to answer given little information so if I'm missing anything important I'd be happy to add it. Also, some might not have answers at this point. I do have a career counselor at school that I have asked these questions but they were little to no help.
Thank you and any help is greatly appreciated!
