So. For a while now our PS2 hasn't been able to run PS1 games at all. However, a month or so ago when we didn't have internet for a bit I finally got around to dusting the thing and booting it up again.

After dusting it I did a little classic memory card sorting and then tested our two PS1 games with our PS1 memory cards. Megaman X and Final Fantasy Tactics.

And they ran! Sort of...

They sort of cut in and out to black and are just generally jittery.

I've heard that PS1 discs are heavier than PS2 discs and am wondering if that could have anything to do with it.

But also, when I cleaned it out I was very careful around the whole thing but especially careful around the read-bits.

Any help figuring out what the read issue might be would be greatly appreciated!

It's one of those big thick ones, I think released shortly after they realized the slim was a bad idea.
