The "Worst Case Scenario" Explosion

Question about the explosion that could have been set off by the meltdown reaching the water under the reactor. A couple articles claim an explosion of all the reactors could have leveled locations hundreds of miles away, yet the yield would have only be 4-5 megatons. Is that hyperbole or just flat out wrong information? It seems like damage at that scale would surpass say, the Tsar bomba (55 megatons).
