CMV: Los Angeles doesn't need more housing, it needs less people
Post Body

This really can apply to any major city, but I'm choosing LA because it's where I live and I see the effects first hand.

Pretty much daily, there are threads here across many subs complaining about the lack of housing, nimbys, and zoning laws that are stopping LA from building more homes, specifically affordable housing. Why does LA need to build more? Do we really need more people to move here? At what point is a city at capacity? Never?

LA is a desirable city for many reasons, and desirable things cost money. Why should a city be any different? Should everyone be able to live in LA simply because they want to?

This isn't a case of "I got mine, so screw everyone else", I'm actually in the process of moving because I simply can no longer afford LA. However, this doesn't seem to stop anyone else, in every single housing thread people bring up a million "solutions", but none of them involve people moving to somewhere they can afford.

I'm honestly thinking there's something obvious that I'm missing, but I really can't see what that is.
