Hope this isn't too hard to follow:

I work as a stage tech for several companies here in the US as well as doing some independent contractor work in the same industry.

One company I work for is a Canadian circus (not Cirque) & I tour with them somewhat. Over the years I've worked for them, we've been all over Europe, the States & some in Canada. In the past, I've been paid as an Independent Contractor by them and have taken care of the the taxes myself. About 2 years ago, they decided to make all of us "Indy's" employees and put us on their payroll. This was all fine and dandy while in the US, they paid us, deducted taxes, both state and federal & then I got a W2 at the end of last tax year. Well, during the 2011 tax year, we went to Canada for a couple of stops, and here they had us all apply for Social Insurance cards and paid us for the work done in Canada, out of their Canadian books with Canadian federal & provincial (2 different provinces) taxes withheld. We were told that if we made less than $10 000 we would be exempt from Canadian taxes & all would be refunded. Well I made just over $5000 and $1400 of that was withheld. I'd like those back but have no idea how to file taxes in Canada.

I assuming I have to file 3 times:

1 Federal

1 Alberta provincial (worked in Calgary for half the amount)

1 Quebec provincial (worked in Quebec City for half the amount)

I've skimmed over the CRA website and it's confusing the hell out of me....I know I have to wait for my T4, but I'm still lost! Can Reddit help me out?
