I previously had a Zotac GTX 1060 mini 3GB version and could run most all of the games below at 60fps on Ultra, unless my memory is deceiving me greatly. Naturally, excluding games which exceeded the vram available.
Then i replaced it with an XFX GTR RX 480 8GB @1420mhz and it was a big improvement, unfortunately the card needed returning as it was faulty and kept losing display output.
I couldn't get another due to the mining craze, so I got the best GTX 1060 on the market (IMHO) and have been testing the card over the last few days.
The following games aren't living up to the standards I was expecting, all at 1080p.
- Wolfenstein the new order: 40fps on Ultra, 60 on high.
- Wolfenstein: Old Blood - 40fps on high, texture flickering.
- Gears of war 4: 50~58 fps on ultra.
- Witcher 3: 60fps on high, 40~50 on ultra. I had to turn hairworks off to get 60fps on high. I could get ultra and hairworks on with my 3GB 1060 (iirc).
- GTA V: 60fps on high, 40~50 on very high. I recall getting 60fps on very high on my 3GB 1060.
- Cemu (Wii u emu) - Mario kart 8 used to run at a solid 60fps with no dips on my old 3GB 1060, now I'm getting dips to 52 fps (between 52 and 60) and the stutter makes it miserable to play.
Firestrike score: 10,500 (iirc). Scored 13>14k on the XFX RX card.
- i7-4790k @4.6Ghz.
- MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 6GB.
- 16GB DDR3 Ram @1800mhz.
- 512GB SSD.
- 650W PSU Corsair.
- Windows 10 x64. Latest version.
Things I've tried:
- Hdmi is plugged into the graphics card.
- DDU
- Updating gfx driver to latest.
- Overclocking card via afterburner (it already runs at 1960mhz in game without).
- Card is extremely cool. Not getting hot at all. Either that's by good cooling or something else.
Note: Whilst waiting for the card to arrive, i used the integrated Intel GPU and set my bios to only use integrated, as i had to. Since installing the new card, i can no longer access the bios.
The screen simply never shows anything until i see the windows 10 login screen.
Edit: Just realized i had it plugged into the wrong PCI slot instead of the 3.0 slot......
Performance is now back to normal :)
Tl;dr: Stupid mistake
