Colorado single malt whiskey 86 proof. Bottle note for solera finish: "Inspired by Spanish sherry Bodega. At the heart of our distillery sit unique oak vats called foeders. Never emptied. Here we carefully marry together casks of our aged single malts creating a harmonious whiskey of unusual depth and complexity."
Nose: 3/5 Subtle oak with cinnamon and clove. Bubblegum (think bazooka), blackberry and honey. A slight funk ending with the bubblegum and blackberry fighting each other.
Palate: 3/5 Mead-like honey flavour, heavy hot cinnamon(think red hots), with sarsaparilla.
Finish: 1/5 Saccharin, peanut shell, bubblegum again, slightly off fruitish flavour. Leaves a cardboard like flavour on the tongue.
Overall thoughts: Meh. The lower proof mixed with the lackluster evolution and offputting finish is really making the 40 doll hairs a bottle hard to swallow in more ways than one. For my taste the only redeeming quality is it makes for a nice toddie with a chamomile lavender tea and a twist of lemon. On the rocks, it loses some of the funk and doesn't quite taste like cardboard.
Pour for me? No thanks. Pour for a friend? Not if I like them. Pour for the drain? Tempting... Repurchase? Nope.
