I'm only about half way through book 3 at the moment, so, maybe this will change (though I doubt it)...
I'm having trouble with the idea that virtually nobody, when given the option of replication, wants to take that offer (with the exception of Bridget). I'm not saying that I disagree that people would be against the idea. There will definitely be whole groups like Bridget's children that would not only dislike the idea, but loath replicants in general (yay for the human race <_< ).
Conversely, however, for everyone who loaths the idea of becoming a replicant, there would bound to be an equal number that would jump at the chance, either upon death or... more immediately. Especially given how, at this point in human history, Humanity destroyed it's own homeworld and has survived purely due to the benevolence of a replicant. While I'd agree the majority would be happy enough to live on the colonies, there would definitely be those that would agree to replication!
As far as the narrative, things would become immensely more complicated to introduce more replicants other than Bobs, so I kinda understand the author not using it in general, but I think, realistically, not all of humanity would be so against replication that there wouldn't be hundreds of new non-Bob replicants within even a decade of Bob announcing it's availability.
Am I wrong, do you think?
