A close uncle is selling his, got himself a nice new 27' Pontoon boat, doesn't care about market value on the bayliner cause he just doesn't need two. He wants 5k for it, I don't know how many hours are on the motor. He's trustworthy, known him my whole life, but I still want to be objective.
He says he always took it to the marina to have the oil changed, gear oil changed, and winterized, so I'm certain there's a paper trail. He did say there was a Crack that developed the year before, but he watched a meticulous YouTube video on how to fix it, and I know he's a meticulous guy as well, and after the fix they put about 20-30 hours on it last season and had no issues.
He says the speedometer doesn't work and the gas gauge is "jumping", in his words.
I've tried being as rational as possible, I've figured a rough estimate on what insurance would cost, I've already looked into boating safety courses, taking ownership of this boat would not make my financial situation tight, and the 5k is easily doable.
I guess my biggest question, have I thought it through? Am I blinded by the prospect of my first boat? People who have bayliners, are there things I need to ask that I haven't? Things I need to check when I test it?
5k seems like a screaming deal. It's a 2007 Bayliner 185 F18 with the 4.3 V6. I'll admit, I've been excited at the prospect. Still am to be fair. But I want someone to tell me I'm being dumb if I am being dumb. So... Am I Being dumb?
