I like many people have complained about Helm's Deep (HD) on patch 2.22 being really hard and frustrating to play even on 'easy' mode. Not really surprisingly when you find out that the developers of the mods are hardcore players that somehow kept a 2 decade old game alive and doing it without pay. Its those kind of competitive players that want a crushing challenge and that's fine however if you're like me you just play for nostalgia re-visiting an old childhood game. Now since you don't have movie/lore plot armor on your side the way you played HD on the vanilla game won't be the same in 2.22 since Isengard now has movie accurate numbers and you will really feel like the underdog. Strangely when you play evil campaign you don't get those numbers when attacking and the defenders are stacked with three waves of reinforcements but I digress.
The developers want to keep you under pressure and for you to micro manage your heroes to destroy all the ladders to prevent the hordes to high level Uruks with forged blades and heavy armor from climbing up. If your like me who doesn't play RTS games to that level nor do you have the reflxes I present you the cheese method.
First off bring all your forces to the inner walls, like the last walls right before the main citadel, abandon the deeping walls, you can't hold it. Recruit only elven archers with fire arrows once Haldir arrives, Rohan archer will be useless and don't have the fire rate or range of the elves. Perch Legolas on the ramp to act like a overwatch sniper, Haldir among the elves for leadership buffs and Aragorn, Gimli and Boromir at the bottom of the ramp to do most of the melee fighting and taking out rams and ballistas while the elves rain arrows on the Uruks, however once they are outside the elves fire support range they will get overwhelmed really fast so retreat them back every now and again. The smaller area will funnel the Uruks into a smaller space and allow the elves to concentrate their fire power. I have no idea what to do with Théoden or Eowyn since they die so easily and I'm not a cav player.
Once you have killed off majority of the original attacking Isengard army they will only send in a trickle of non upgraded Uruks afterwards which will the sign to call in Eomer's reinforcements and to counter attack. By the way unlike the movie if you send in Eomer too early he and his reinforcements will die really fast. Turns out rushing cavalry into heavily armored pikeman who outnumber you is a really bad idea in reality.
Anyway I hope you found this useful and can now pass Helms Deep. If you want Ill put up more cheese guides for other missions for both good and evil campaigns.
Take care and have a nice day.
