Some older Russian lady. Asked about my diet a lot but not any questions about exercising. She also completely got it wrong about gaba receptors, she said they grow after benzo exposure. That's incorrect, they are downregulated when the receptor is saturated. They only grow back after stopping.
She would like me to finish my taper off slowly, at my comfort level. I said I've had anxiety for years before even starting a benzo, what happens if and when that comes back. This is where my jaw dropped a bit by the response. She of course said earlier that 'we' can try other drugs to see if that helps. like an antidepressant, blah blah blah. Been there done that. But she then said "Oh if you want to take a small amount of the Lorezepam 2-3 times a week, like 0.5 mg if you are having a bad day, that's fine, I just don't want you to take it daily." Really? It's that big of a difference? 0.5 mg daily vs. 0.5 mg 2-3 times a week? I was a little surprised.
I get that the receptors will normalize a lot better if you don't take it daily, but pill for pill, mg for mg, it's not that huge of a drop if you count all mgs over a one-year period. 2-3 times a week is between 28-42% of a daily dose. I thought maybe she would say take it like 2-5 times a year, not 2-3x a week. In other words, I started at 1 mg and am down to 0.45 so that's already a 55% drop. That means the equivalent dose 2-3 times over the whole week would be 1.25 mg/week or about 0.18mg/day. She's fine with people continuing with the equivalent of 0.2 mg/day indefinitely? Hmmm...yes that's a super low dose but again, that's still 100-150 0.5mg pills per year.
Any opinions.
