Working as a non-EU consultant for the United Nations: do I need a sponsorship? I've heard that the UN is a "special employer" and you don't need a sponsorship when you're already in Belgium as a student; you can just switch from "student" to "worker" with your UN contract. Is that true?

I called the "Agentschap Integratie en Inburgering" and they told me that if you work for the UN you have an "Onderzoeker" status, and indeed you don't need to be sponsored and you can have a worker status only by showing your contract, however, I think he thought that the "UN" was a university called "United Nations University – Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS)", which is indeed a university that hires researches, but that's not my case, I'm asking about the international organization called United Nations. Thanks!
