Hey there,

I'm an African diaspora with AA Accent and sensibilities,

I wanted to extend an olive branch to you guys because I was bullied vociferously growing up for being what was seen to be a bookish non white guy and the places I found succour in were "nerd" spaces which had lots of Chinese and Japanese people... Groups of people I was told were incredibly anti black.

There was seldom a time where something happened to me and these said friends did not rebut and admonish what was being said. This is more than I could say for the white leftists who...

Well... I've bore witness to a number of interactions, discussions, and accostments regarding China or Chinese people in recent years and what I'm reminded of is the "give an inch take a mile" mentality that many on the left and wider Western society have towards sinophobia.

To put it simply, here is an article by the author Kenan Malik about anti-Semitism on the British Left https://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/04/opinion/the-british-lefts-jewish-problem.html

As I was reading this, many of the things he mentioned were things I'd seen happen with east Asian people throughout my growth as a teenager and now since the beginning of this decade. Just replace British with Western and Jewish with Chinese/East Asian.

I've seen more abetting of racism and bigotry towards you guys than a malaise, however, I'm African as I said but almost all of my closest friends are East Asian and if they were as anti black as I was told growing up, that has certainly changed and continues to change https://www.voanews.com/a/japanese-americans-won-redress-fight-for-black-reparations-/6977522.html&ved=2ahUKEwjCk5ycg8j-AhUaU6QEHZpWB-cQFnoECEAQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1SSosT3YVaWJA07ZyHXHC1 because of things like this, and polls like this https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2020/07/01/many-black-and-asian-americans-say-they-have-experienced-discrimination-amid-the-covid-19-outbreak/ where I've seen, in real time, you guys get ignored and for someone to stop reading at "black" and come to my defence but ignore you guys which grants me no pleasure at all.

I will cap this by mentioning another Kenan Malik article. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/mar/21/atlanta-shootings-racist-myths-lie-behind-the-rise-in-violence-against-asian-americans which I see as edifying what I mentioned earlier about abetting bigotry towards Asians.

I also wanted to cap it off by saying...

There is a zeitgeist on the rise of individuals becoming reactionary and aping the sections of the left who engage in sinophobia and from what I've seen on this subreddit, that seldom happens here. So ☺️☺️

What do you guys think? Is anything I've mentioned or what the articles I've mentioned congruent with your experiences?
