How can lightning not burn up the atmosphere?
Post Body
My friend and I were arguing over the nature of lightning. He postulated that lightning, because it is thousands of degrees hotter than the Sun, should vaporize the clouds and burn the atmosphere around it. I'm pretty sure he's incorrect, but can't put it into words. Anyone know a way to explain how this doesn't happen?
