Does rifting most commonly/always occur at triple junctions? If so, why?
Post Body
e.g. East African Rift, and wiki on rifting seems to suggest triple junctions are present, and maybe one arm fails. Specifically, why triple junction? Why doesn't it just split open along a line? Or into 4 or more radial branches? Why 3?
