After extensive research, talking to malignants online, reading about cult leaders, pondering the question and first hand experience (based on my arm chair diagnosis after several years of observation), I get why these people seek dominance over others (ego-preservation/defending against vulnerability) but don't understand how they choose who to subjegate (their victims) and how they view/feel about them.
