I bought a used car in November of 2023 from a dealership. Paid cash for the car in full. I’ve called and went back to said dealership multiple times attempting to get the title for the car and was told over and over again that “ the dmv is backed up “ and my title would come in the mail. It never came. I wake up today and the car is gone out of my driveway. Call police to report it stolen and they say it’s been repo’d?? Called repo company and they confirm they have the car and xyz finance company told them to come get it? Call that finance company and they tell me there is a lean on the car and I need to contact the dealership. Contact the dealership and they tell me they cut a check to pay off the car when I purchased it. Now I’m lost. No car. No info on how to get it back, how was I sold a car with a lean on it? Where did all the cash go that I gave the dealership for the car? Is it possible that the dealership never paid off the car? Where do I go from here? I’m at risk of losing my job and my home and everything with no vehicle. I’m not sure what else to do at this point. Any advice is welcomed. I’m in Louisiana if that matters.
