So I bought a Mazda on Saturday. I did not have an intention of buying a car that day. But it was a very good deal. They told me that they can arrange financing for me. So I went through their financing.
They had me fill out a credit application. The salesman insisted that I change the length of my previous employment to 2 years while I only worked there for 18 months. I refused. I said I will come back later with my own money. He backed off. He didn't force me.
Then he made me sign a form where the duration of that employment was missing. This was a stupid mistake I made. I signed it.
Later I went to talk to his boss and he had that same piece of paper on his desk. By that point my loan was already approved. And that paper was still missing the amount of time I worked for my previous employer. So I felt relieved.
Then I went into the finance guy's office. He made me sign a credit application again. And in that form, my length of employment at that previous job was listed as 27 months. I refused to sign it, till he corrected it. He corrected that form and I signed it and I drove home in my new car.
- Will I get into legal trouble for any of this.
- Will he call me sometime in the future and tell me that the credit union took back their approval? The salesman was telling me that since I have only been in my current job for 2 months and I have only been at my previous job for 1.5 years, my application will be denied. But apparently it was approved.
- The loan was financed with Austin Teleco credit union. Should I contact them and explain what has happened?
The thing is these guys did not give me a copy of the credit application they made me sign.
