Issue with IMessages sharing location.

So today I went to dinner with my parents and we were waiting for my husband. I just went to my messages and clicked on his picture to see where he was. It pops up in our shared feed I guess you would call it. Now I can do this with everyone I have shared location indefinitely. But. When I was trying to help my dad set it up it wouldn’t pop up on his with the little map? We went through settings and everything, but no luck. Any ideas what we are missing? We have the same settings for everything and his phone is up to date. Thanks in advanced for any tips or tricks.
