Am I wrong for thinking adult child still at home should help out around the house?
Post Body

I have an adult step son who is 19 and hasn't gotten his driver's license yet. Won't go into that part in this one. I'm rural so no public transport for him to have a job. So he sits at home and doesn't do anything but game.

Got in a fight with the wife and she pitched a fit about washing dishes and fixing meals. Am I wrong for saying her son should be doing some of this? I usually don't as I work 10 hour days and spend 2 hours in commute time a day. Wife works 8 hours with a 10 minute drive.

I feel she is enabling her son to be a noncontributing member of the household and I am tired of it. FWIW I pay all bills except groceries and even get some of them a good part of the time so I feel in my way I am contributing.

Edit: my history is much different. Grew up a farm kid and I had chores at probably age 6. Started with things like collecting eggs. By 14-15 I was tending animals and making dinner. Often in the summer I was making the family farms hay and biking to other farmers to help. My daughter was the same and she is a successful postgraduate.

I moved back in with my dad and rent the basement for a little under a single bedroom apartment price. I still mow the lawn, do house projects, clean. Not all of it but I wfh so I have more time to do a little here and there. I still have time to play endless video games until I'm bored and hangout with my gf and go out doing fun stuff. I almost never see my dad we both live busy lives outside the house.
